Yohji Yamamoto

Sold - YOHJI YAMAMOTO A/W 2000/01 Vintage Wool-Silk Jacquard Faux Wolf Fur Peplum Jacket Size S

This rare sculptural Yohji Yamamoto jacket from A/W 2000/01 is crafted from the most elaborate wool and silk jacquard that is used inside out and has a morbidly romantic, withered appeal with the most beautiful use of colours. The jacket runs fitted through the underbust/waist area and then flares out into a wide peplum. Collar and bottom interior are crafted from lush faux wolf fur, the long sleeves from a synthetic jersey. The jacket closes with several hidden snap buttons and boasts the most amazing interior - please have a look at the detail pictures.

Material 1: 55% wool, 45% silk, material 2: 80% nylon, 20% polyurethane, material 3: 100% modacryl on 100% cotton. Made in Japan.

Runway look 24, modeled by Inge Geurts (picture via Vogue Runway). Further reference pictures with Amber Valletta by Craig McDean from the Yohji Yamamoto lookbook A/W 2000/01 (via "Yohji Yamamoto Rewind/Forward - 238 Fashion Pictures, 1995-2000). The tapestry jacquard fabric was the central theme of the lookbook.

Hamish Bowles wrote a beautiful review for Vogue that captured the collection's vibe: "(...) Yohji Yamamoto sent out a bravura collection that suggested a luxurious cocooning against an arctic winter. In the poetic Yamamoto tradition, his models looked like the brides of Mongolian or Tartar warriors. (...) Yamamoto used fur - real fox and faux wolf - to circle hoods and collars (...) [and] juxtaposed the magnificence of jacquard fabrics - their patterns suggesting antique paisley shawls - with the savage edge of animal skins (...)."
