NINA RICCI 1970s Vintage Powder Grey Lace & Silk Chiffon Maxi Evening Gown

NINA RICCI 1970s Vintage Powder Grey Lace & Silk Chiffon Maxi Evening Gown

This spectacular vintage Nina Ricci evening gown, c. late 1970s, is crafted from yards and yards of finest powder grey silk chiffon and lace with grey satin ribbons. The dress exudes an ultra romantic, ethereal vibe with its ruffled details and the widely flared multi tiered skirt and is even much more beautiful in reality than in the pictures. The dress features a ruffled collar and long billowing sleeves with elasticated cuffs, all adorned with satin bands. The extremely full floor-length skirt consists of five ruffled tiers with the fabric alternating between silk chiffon and lace. The waist is accentuated with a thin satin tie belt. The dress features an internal waist stay and closes at the center back with a hand-set zipper and a row of silk-covered buttons. It is masterly constructed and speaks of first-class craftsmanship with many hand-sewn details. The sheer amount of fabric - literally yards and yards of silk and lace - that went into the creation of this piece is incredible. Regarding the lightness of the silk chiffon and delicate lace, the weight of the dress speaks volumes about the exuberant use of material. 100% silk, lined in silk chiffon and lilac-grey silk crêpe. The sleeves and the lace part of the bodice are left unlined. Made in France. The original retail price according to the tag was 5.490 DM which today would be equivalent to more than 7.000 EUR or $7,000 USD.
