Gianni Versace invented Oroton in 1982 when he was looking for a material that combined the particular texture of metal with the fluidity of silk. Instead of linking single metal plates with rings, he put them onto a base of metal mesh grid and thus created an innovative fabric that allowed for a soft drape and natural silhouettes. Garments crafted from Oroton belong to Versace's most iconic and recognizable designs. Early pieces are hard to come by and highly desirable collector's items.
