Escada was founded in Munich in 1976 by former Swedish model Margaretha Ley and her husband Wolfgang. The label quickly established itself as a major force in fashion with its glamorous day and evening wear, characterized by vibrant colors, lavish embellishments, and opulent accessories. Escada reached the height of its influence and international success during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Following Margaretha Ley's untimely death in 1992, the company continued under Wolfgang Ley's leadership, becoming particularly known for its high-quality, classically elegant evening wear.
