Escada was founded in Munich in 1976 by former Swedish model Margaretha Ley and her husband Wolfgang. The label quickly made a name for itself in the fashion industry with its highly glamorous and lavishly embellished day and evening wear in vibrant colors and with opulent accessories and reached the height of its influence and international success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. After Margaretha Ley's untimely death in 1992, the label was continued by Wolfgang Ley and stood in particular for high-quality, classic-elegant evening wear.
