This rare and highly elaborate vintage evening gown by Julien Macdonald, circa late 1990s or early 2000s, is an exceptional archival piece and a true statement garment in every sense.
Crafted from delicate sheer pink silk, the dress is entirely hand-embellished with intricate beadwork and sequins in shades of orange, pink, and gold, forming a geometric triangular motif that shimmers dramatically in the light.
Designed for high-impact evening wear, the gown features a deep front neckline, a plunging V-shaped back, and a dramatic high side slit reaching to the upper thigh. It fastens at the side with a zipper and a metal hook closure.
100% silk; embellishments 50% polyester, 50% glass. Unlined and made in Italy. The dress features the designer’s clear plastic label, indicating an early piece.
CONDITION
Overall, the dress presents in excellent vintage condition, with the beadwork and sequins appearing virtually flawless. There are approximately five missing sequins along one side seam.
On closer inspection, there is visible stress to the seams, an important detail to be aware of if the piece is intended for wear. Due to the delicacy of the silk and the substantial weight of the embellishment, the fabric shows stress in places along the seams, with visible weakening, most notably along the side seams and back dart areas.
Given its construction and condition, the piece should be handled with care and may benefit from light internal reinforcement for future wear.
