YVES SAINT LAURENT 1960s 1970s Vintage Dark Blue Tunic Top & Pants Suit Size XS
Yves Saint Laurent was the first fashion designer to launch a ready-to-wear line in September 1966, and early pieces from his pioneering Rive Gauche line are highly sought after and increasingly hard to find. This pantsuit is a great example of his early designs, dating back to around the late 1960s or early 1970s, and comprises a tunic top and the matching pants. Made from dark blue synthetic jersey fabric, the top has a long and slightly flared cut, buttoned shoulders and 3/4-length sleeves. It fastens with a zipper at the side. The matching trousers have a slim fit with a high waist and flared legs and a front closure with two metal hooks and eyes and a third hook that is apparently intended to be joined with the zipper. We are not sure if this is the original construction, but this is how we obtained this piece, and this unconventional solution would match the surprisingly simple construction and execution that is often found in early Rive Gauche pieces. The zipper works without restraint and also stays in place without the hook. No material label, synthetics, unlined. Made in France.
