Capes played a major role in Yves Saint Laurent's oeuvre and appeared in many of his collections over the decades. This example, probably from the 1970s, is crafted from yards and yards of a black wool fabric and features a black velvet capelet and long satin ties. The cape is widely flared and extremely full with a spectacular hem circumference of 8,0 meters/8.75 yards. The hemline appears slightly irregular in length and finishes approximately at calf-length. The cape closes at the front with two long satin ties. Illegible composition label (main material probably 100% wool, other materials for the velvet and satin). Unlined. Made in France.
