YVES SAINT LAURENT Fall 1977 Ruffled Floral Silk Evening Coat
YVES SAINT LAURENT Fall 1977 Ruffled Floral Silk Evening Coat
This rare and documented Yves Saint Laurent evening coat from Fall 1977 is crafted from a lightweight black silk taffeta with an intricate hand-screened floral print in muted shades of apricot, peach, pastel pink and mint green. The cut is incredibly refined, with great attention to detail. The coat is executed in a widely flared baby doll A-line, knee-length, and features a ruffled stand-up collar, a generously ruffled hemline and billowing long sleeves with buttoned cuffs (two buttons each). From the shoulders down to the bust the fabric is finely pleated on front and back. The coat features hidden side pockets and closes with a row of seven round black buttons from the neck down to the bust plus a hidden snap button below. An outstanding Yves Saint Laurent piece, incredibly refined and quite versatile as well - can be worn as a coat or dress, with or without a belt (there are small slits in the side seams at waist level). 100% silk, unlined. Made in France. Reference photo by Arthur Elgort for Vogue Paris, August 1977 available upon request.
