YVES SAINT LAURENT F/W 1977 Ruffled Silk Evening Coat Size XS
This rare Yves Saint Laurent evening coat from F/W 1977 is made of a rustling black silk taffeta featuring an intricate hand-screened floral print in muted shades of apricot, peach, pastel pink and mint green. The cut is incredibly refined, with great attention to detail. Executed in a widely flared baby doll A-line, knee-length. The coat features a ruffled stand-up collar, a generously ruffled hemline and billowing long sleeves with buttoned cuffs (two buttons each). From the shoulders down to the bust the fabric is finely pleated on front and back. The coat features hidden side pockets and closes with a row of seven round black buttons from the neck down to the bust plus a hidden snap button below. The side seams have small slits for a belt at waist level (see pictures with an exemplary belt). This garment is quite versatile as you could wear it as a coat or as a dress, with or without a belt. An outstanding Yves Saint Laurent piece, exceptionally refined and unique. 100% silk, unlined. Made in France. Reference pic by Arthur Elgort for Vogue Paris, August 1977.
