VOGUE GERMANY

After a short initial run from 1928 to 1929, the German edition of Vogue has been published monthly since 1979. Angelica Blechschmidt joined as art director and worked with several editors-in-chief before assuming the role herself in 1989. Recognizable for her over-the-top elegant personal style - high heels, little black designer dresses, bold jewelry, and the signature silver streak in her backcombed hair - Blechschmidt shaped Vogue Germany throughout the 1990s into a magazine of exceptional sophistication and strong visual identity. Her highly cultivated approach combined glamour with wit, bringing together leading figures from fashion, design, and culture. The magazine moved beyond fashion, exploring interiors, travel, and contemporary lifestyle with the same verve and enthusiasm. Angelica Blechschmidt’s Vogue radiated incomparable joie de vivre and a focus on the beautiful things in life - in our view, among the finest international editions in the magazine’s history. Blechschmidt led the editorial team until early 2003, when the equally remarkable, elegantly understated Christiane Arp took over, remaining at the helm of Vogue Germany until December 2020.
