ALEXANDER MCQUEEN Spring 1999 Vintage Sculpted Silk Jacket Mesh Cut-Out Size S // Sold
This couturey Alexander McQueen jacket from his iconic Spring 1999 "No. 13" collection (with Shalom Harlow closing the show being sprayed by robots) is made of a thick first-class quality cream silk twill with herringbone structure and features the most elaborate cut with a cut out detail with mesh insert at the back, an opulent collar with large lapels and sharp origami fold-over details at back and shoulders. The jacket features a fitted waist and then flares out toward the hips. It closes with one single signature button plus one hidden signature button at waist level. 100% silk and 66% nylon, 34% spandex (mesh detail). Made in Italy.
The reference pictures show the runway look from Spring 1999 as well as a very similar cut coat from Spring 1997 "La Poupée." The dress version of this jacket has prominently been featured on pages 40/41 of the Met Museum's catalogue "Savage Beauty" (see reference picture) that was published in conjunction with the eponymous exhibition in 2011, and this not only dates our jacket to the "No. 13" collection from Spring 1999 but also emphasizes its relevance within the work of Alexander McQueen. Excellent. One small faint mark right at the edge of the collar that remains after dry-cleaning (see second to last picture, hardly visible).
