This stunning Bernard Perris dress from the late 1970s or early 1980s perfectly embodies the New Romantic trend of the era and showcases Perris’s love for detail and couture craftsmanship. It is a truly spectacular piece with incredible attention to construction and material.
Designed in a lingerie-inspired, babydoll silhouette, the dress is made from yards of black silk taffeta, partially pleated, and flares widely toward the hem (circumference approximately 5,5 meters / 6 yards), featuring a pleated black silk taffeta underlayer that peeks out and creates a tiered effect.
The delicate short sleeves, in true babydoll style, are made from three layers of fine black lace set onto organza bases. The neckline is adorned with a silk taffeta bow, and the dress fastens at the back with a side-offset zipper, metal hooks, and a row of metal snap buttons above.
Fully lined in black silk and hand-finished, this evening dress is a spectacular and rare example from the great French designer.
CONDITION Excellent vintage condition. Two tiny pin-sized white marks near the hem that remain after dry cleaning, virtually hidden in the fabric’s abundance.
SIZE No size tag - fits approximately size DE 32, FR 34, IT 38, US 0-2, UK 6, XXS. The bust measurement is critical (on our size S mannequin, the dress does not fully close). Other measurements are flexible due to the voluminous cut.
