LANVIN c. Spring 1972 Vintage Ensemble Pleated Wrap Maxi Skirt & Stole
LANVIN c. Spring 1972 Vintage Ensemble Pleated Wrap Maxi Skirt & Stole
This spectacular vintage Lanvin set from the early 1970s, probably Spring 1972, comprises a maxi skirt and a large triangular stole and is crafted from a white wool crêpe with an amazing graphic and paisley print in deep and highly saturated colours, almost of a neon quality.
The skirt is incredible. Waist, one vertical edge and bottom hem are trimmed with a chinese inspired silk border with elaborate embroidery - dragons and florals with metallic gold details. The skirt is densely pleated at the waist and then flares out towards the hem to finish at floor-length with a circumference of almost 4 meters/4 yards. It wraps around the body and ties to close. It is not visible in the pictures, but do note that the skirt is designed to fit around the body just barely. It will spring open with your movements, leading to a very high slit and to revealing a lot of leg.
The triangular stole can be worn in a variety of ways - knotted into a top or a as neck or head scarf - to complement the skirt or as a colourful solo piece. No material tag, probably 100% wool. Unlined. Made in France.
